In the 1980s, newly called apostle Russel M. Nelson toured western europe and visited Portugal as one of his early assignments abroad. While there, he told the missionaries that they would see the day when the members of Portugal would not have to travel to receive their temple blessings, he said he could see the day when they would have a temple in their own land.
